This t-shirt features Banksy's take on legendary Manchester United star, George Best. The original is stencilled on a wall in Brighton next to Bankys famous Kissing Coppers.
George Best was a Northern Irish professional footballer from Belfast, who played as winger for Manchester United & the Northern Ireland national team. In 1968 he won the European Cup with United & was named European Footballer of the Year & FWA Footballer of the Year.
His playing style combined pace, balance, acceleration & a mastery of two-footedness which made him lethal when tackling defenders. Such was his talent, combined with handsome looks & charisma that Best became one of the first celebrity footballers. This led to an extravagant lifestyle & various financial problems & alcoholism. He quit United in 1974 aged 27, & played intermittently for various clubs around the world until his final retirement in1983 aged 37.
After a long battle with alcoholism, Best received a liver-transplant in 2002 but died in 2005 due to complications with the medication he needed to cope with the new liver.
